For the second consecutive year, the Africala Film Festival was held in Caracas as well as in 40 community halls around the country. The initiative was sponsored by the National Cinema Board, and funded by its Cultural Community Project Program. This year we were fortunate to welcome the famous African actress Mali Fatoumata Culibaly. Culibaly is also an active Women’s Rights defender, who works towards ending ablation in Africa. The inauguration of the Festival took place on the 12th of December in the Celarg Theater (part of the Romulo Gallegos Cultural Center) with the screening of “Moolade”, the latest film by director Ousmane Sembene, a founding father of African Cinema, also starring Culibaly.
